Difference between stunt scooter and regular urban scooter

How does a stunt scooter differ from a regular scooter?

To practice extreme riding, you need a more durable scooter than the usual urban model. Trick scooters are not foldable - although it is convenient, it is unreliable under high loads. All trick models of scooters have a one-piece frame - this ensures structural strength. Such scooters are designed to withstand a minimum of 100 kg of weight. For their manufacture, high-quality materials are used, for example, 6061-T6 aluminum alloy, which is used in the military industry and aviation. It is impossible to convert an ordinary scooter into a stunt scooter - this is not safe!

Other features of the stunt scooter

● Compared to touring models, the stunt scooter has a much smaller wheel. It will not be possible to develop high speed on them, but maneuverability is more important here. The most common wheel material is polyurethane.

● The absence of any additional and decorative elements (the design should be as light as possible).

● High degree of hardness of wheels (from 72A to 93A).

● Welded frame. The fewer structural elements in the scooter, the higher its strength. And for extreme scootering, this is the most important thing.

● Some trick scooters use double brakes, not only on the rear but also on the front wheel. But this is already a matter of taste for the rider himself.

Choosing a stunt scooter: basic rules

A stunt scooter should be chosen depending on where you are going to ride. According to this criterion, scooters are divided into three categories:

1. Street. Such a scooter must withstand landings on asphalt and feel confident when meeting with all the bumps and obstacles of city streets. Street models have a wider rectangular deck and a flat bottom compared to park scooters. This is necessary in order to make it easier to jump onto the railing and glide well. Such models are often equipped with wheels with a diameter of 110 mm, but they can have both a smaller (100 mm) and a larger diameter (125 mm). It depends on the preference of the rider. The handlebar is high and quite large - in order to make the scooter easier to control.

2. Park. For riding in ideal skate park conditions, lighter and more compact models have proved to be the best. Their deck is smaller and narrower, and the handlebars are lower (often made of aluminum). Wheel diameter - 100-125 mm.

3. Dirt. If you want to do off-road stunts, choose a scooter with large inflatable wheels (up to 200 mm) that will provide reliable traction even on embankments. Such a model is not suitable for the city - there is a high risk of damaging the wheels.

Scooter manufacturers also divide their products into models for beginners, for riders with basic experience and professionals. Advanced trick scooters feature increased durability and a more professional compression system. We also divide all models in our shop into 3 categories - for Beginners, for Advance riders and for Professionals.

What else to look for when choosing a stunt scooter?

  • The lighter, the more maneuverable. The standard weight of stunt models is 3.2-3.7 kg. Some models reach up to 4 kg - and could also be used by experienced riders to perform difficult jumps.
  • The handlebar must be equipped with grips (textured non-slip pads that are comfortable to hold on to). They must not fall under any circumstances.
  • Handlebar height. The steering wheel of stunt scooters is not adjustable in height, so it is important to immediately choose the right model for you. The steering wheel should correspond to the height of the belt (or be slightly lower). The lower the steering wheel, the higher you can raise the scooter in a jump.
  • Narrow handlebars will be convenient for beginners - it is easier to learn new tricks with them. A wider handlebar will suit experienced riders as it provides stability and good control of the scooter.
  • The choice of deck depends on the style of riding. Narrow and short decks are better suited for the park - they spin easily. Street riding requires a longer and heavier deck. At the same time, the size of the board should correspond to the size of the foot - so that the rider can move comfortably. There should be enough room for the rear leg to stand upright. For most decks, we list the legroom size to make it easier for the rider to find the correct deck.
  • It is better to choose an integrated headset (handlebar steering system). More advanced and durable system suitable for professional riding.
  • A solid scooter should make a dull sound during jumps - this means that its design is monolithic and it will last longer.
  • The deck must be covered with non-slip material (griptape) and be without any decorative elements.

A trick scooter costs more than a regular one - and this is natural, because more expensive materials are used here. But a novice rider who has not yet decided on a riding style should not chase expensive models. The main thing is that the scooter is strong enough for the first experiments.

Choose scooters from trusted brands, as it is not always possible to determine the quality of parts by appearance. The most famous companies producing trick scooters are: AO Scooters, HIPE, Blunt Scooters, Triad, Fuzion, Novatrack, Ethic, Ateox, Tech team, Dominator Scooters, Longway, Invert.

Of course, when choosing a scooter, there are also subjective factors. It is important that the future owner likes its color and design - then it will be pleasant to spend a lot of time riding on it and improve in the development of complex elements!
